Visiting Philippines? Try this dessert

My #1 Philippine dessert is not traditionally filipino. The day I arrived was grey and wet, yet humid. The traffic was a cluttered mess going from the airport. But the start of an authentic Asian experience. It was in September. I am however not reminiscing about my stay, but the smell of caramalized sugar when I entered the kitchen that following morning. The Philippines have its traditional dessert like Halo-Halo and Buku salad that is both delectable, must try frozen desserts. But it is neither of the two that made an impression on me during my visit to the Philippines. I originally began writing this post to share a great delicacy of my first visit to the Philippines.  Being passed off as a filipino dessert, I soon realised that this is not a filipino dessert but, the filipino version rather. It is still the filipino version I prefer, since I had travelled to Mexico, France and South Africa. My finding is that the filipino version referred to as Leche Flan is tastier,...

My Society6 experience and sales report

Sales Report Society6

I remember last year how fired up I was when I stumbled upon Society6 The thought of making money while I sleep, sound amazing. I didn’t wait for the change to open an account. I head right into it, and straight over to adobe illustrator. I calculated how many products I would have to get sold and what the return would be...

September 3, 2020 I published my first design. Seeing it on the products was amazing, I send screenshots of over to friends and family. I was so proud. I refreshed my account every thirty minutes to see if someone purchased something...to my disappointment , no one even saw the products. No likes, no shares. Clearly what I designed was not good enough.

September 4, 2020 I published another. Something different, fresh , crisp mint leaf design. The colour mint was popular and people will just love it, I thought.

September 6, 2020. Still nothing. Instead I created a product with one of my travel photos as a design. It looked really classy I thought. Then doubt crawled in and I began to wonder is it even, as with this one, I have also thought of the others as classy.

September 7, 2020 I woke up, and finally one like, my design must be terrible, but they like my photo. I head straight to my “manage artwork” section and created five more designs on this day. Something was happening, I must have been doing something right.

Unfortunately that is about what happened, and nothing more.

September 10, 2020. I guess the moon aligned in some way. I exploded with creativity and ideas. These are cute I thought. Once someone sees it, they will buy, and word would spread and every mother would want one. That is what you call a severe case of “counting your eggs before they hatch"

Nothing…

Nothing..

Nothing…

I began designing as I felt, and no longer refreshed. I didn’t design for money, or business. I just did it cause I like it. To clear my head. To feel good. Instead of candy crush or gardenscapes.

September 25, 2020. I uploaded another totally different piece. Something more daring, but tasteful.  After I have posted several others I thought great. Like testing the waters, to see what buyers like. Unfortunately for me it felt like buyers didn’t like anything I had to offer.  Being an artist was hard. Being an aspiring artist was horrible.  Nobody appreciate what you have to offer. I remember that back when I was in school, I wanted to go to art school, my father said. “ someone else will only get rich once your dead.” So I didn’t.  What you do will only be good enough when someone famous like Oprah Winfrey says, IT IS ADORABLE, YOU GET ONE, YOU GET ONE AND YOU GET ONE. In her deep voice.

Since then…occasionally I designed something, until the end of September. September 28 to be exact. I was so discouraged. Nothing happened. Googling how to make money on Society6 states that you have to keep designing. How can you expect someone to keep doing something that they now just feel horrible at.

Then I stopped…

But, December 3, 2020. I signed into my account and there it was. My first payment of an order back on October 20, 2020, cleared on December 2.

It was like a light opened up from the heavens, someone like my work. Someone wanted what I designed. Something I designed was now hanging on a wall somewhere in someone’s house.

Visit to buy, also available as different products

It is April now…that was my first and only order. Being successful in the online business is hard. Any business is hard I guess. The competition is tough. However that one sale proved to me that it is indeed possible to earn from this method. I enjoy design. Whether I earn from it or not. I might as well share it on a product, for somewhere someone might have an appreciation of my vision.

If you are starting, keep at it. The saying doesn’t go for no reason, that Rome wasn’t build in a day. If you do it because you love it, it will be much easier, than doing it to get rich quick.

Below is my account proof, that I did indeed make something, and I sure as hell intend to make more.
